About Joel Cortese — EdS, LPC, NCC

Licensed Professional Counselor, Senior Psychotherapist

Joel Cortese is a New Jersey Licensed Professional Counselor, New Jersey Certified School Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. His expertise range several areas including ADHD, child/adolescent mental health, anxiety disorders, and OCD. He holds a Master’s Degree in School Counseling and an EdS in Professional Counseling from Seton Hall University. Joel completed his clinical internship at the Richard Hall Community Mental Health Clinic, where he trained with experts in mood disorders and substance misuse. Following this, Joel worked in the public schools, where he honed his individual and family therapy skills. He is particularly adroit at helping children navigating the challenges of school pressures associated with mood disorders, social skill deficits, and attentional issues. He is an active member of the New Jersey Counselors Association and the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapists.

“My goal as a therapist is to help my clients better navigate obstacles that have postponed them from obtaining their personal goals. I focus on working primarily with adolescents and adults suffering from symptoms of anxiety by utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy. I apply a client centered and solution focused approach, aligning with my clients to facilitate the therapeutic process, while working towards their goals. I have extensive experience working with adolescents and adults in the community and within the school system.”
